The Stan Smith's story began with a different name. Developed with French tennis player Robert Haillet in the mid-1960s, the original adidas court shoe used perforations arranged as three stripes to improve ventilation through its leather upper. After Haillet retired, adidas sought another player to represent the design. Shoes bearing Stan Smith's name arrived in 1973, beginning a period in which both players' names appeared together on the tongue.
The Haillet name was removed in 1978, establishing the identity that continued beyond competitive tennis. This White and Navy edition belongs to that long-running Stan Smith family, retaining its understated court-shoe presentation within the adidas Originals range. The two-tone palette offers another interpretation of a silhouette often associated with white and green. Its historical significance rests in the continuity between a purpose-built tennis design and the everyday sneaker that developed from it.
