Infinium is the Gore-Tex line for products built to resist weather rather than to guarantee a waterproof seal, and adidas used it to make a Superstar that can handle a wet street. The upper is white tumbled leather carrying a water-resistant treatment, a heavier and more textured hide than the smooth leather on a standard pair. Branding is debossed into the heel and across the counter rather than printed or stitched on, which keeps the surface unbroken. The shell toe and serrated Three-Stripes are unchanged, as is the rubber cupsole with its herringbone tread.
It released November 5, 2019 at $140, well above the $100 a plain leather Superstar cost at the time. Technical materials on a fifty-year-old basketball shoe are always a slightly odd fit, but the Superstar has absorbed stranger changes than a weatherproofed upper.
