The 4.0 was the generation that softened the UltraBoost's plastic midfoot cage into something closer to a stitched panel, and the DNA label marks a later reissue of that pattern rather than a new design. This women's pair runs it in Core Black across the Primeknit and the cage, with Cloud White handling the outsole and small branding. The contrast is minimal, which suits a shoe whose shape is its main feature.
Under the knit is the same full-length Boost midsole the line has used from the start, foam made by fusing steamed thermoplastic polyurethane pellets, a process adidas developed with the chemical firm BASF and put into running shoes in 2013. DNA reissues exist because adidas kept numbering forward through 19, 20, 21 and 22 while demand stayed with the earlier shapes, so the brand rebuilt the old patterns under a separate name instead of reversing the numbering.
