adidas built the Adizero Adios Pro 3 as a marathon racer and put it on sale in June 2022, stacking two layers of Lightstrike Pro foam to roughly 39.5mm at the heel and 33mm at the forefoot, close to the 40mm ceiling World Athletics allows in competition.
Its distinguishing part is EnergyRods 2.0, carbon-infused rods embedded through the midsole and aligned with the metatarsals. The second generation fused what had previously been separate rods into a single structure, so the forefoot stiffens as one piece at toe-off rather than in segments.
Y-3, the label Yamamoto has directed with adidas since its Paris runway debut in October 2002, periodically takes adidas performance platforms rather than lifestyle ones. This white version leaves the racing geometry intact while stripping away the team colours and sponsor graphics a marathon shoe usually carries. At a glance it reads as a plain white runner; in profile the stack height gives away what it actually is.
