The Nizza was a mid-1970s adidas basketball shoe, its name the German spelling of Nice, built the way court shoes were then: canvas upper, rubber toe cap, vulcanised sole and stitched three stripes. It fell out of the catalogue for decades before adidas Originals brought it back in 2017, initially in the cream and blue of the 1975 pair, and it settled in as a low-cost staple across both low and high cuts.
Y-3's version treats that shape as raw material rather than as an artefact to reproduce. The high-top keeps the toe cap and the flat vulcanised profile but is rebuilt in Yamamoto's palette and proportions, with the branding handled the way the label handles it elsewhere, sparingly and in one place.
This pair sets a talc-toned upper against black and came out in January 2025. It is the plainest kind of Y-3 shoe, which is part of the appeal: a 50-year-old outline with almost nothing added except judgement about where to stop.
