The Adizero Prime X exists because adidas wanted to build a shoe without the rulebook. World Athletics caps competition stack height at 40mm and permits a single rigid plate; the Prime X 2 Strung answers with roughly 50mm at the heel, 43.5mm at the forefoot and two carbon-infused plates. It cannot be worn in elite races, and adidas has never pretended otherwise, positioning it for training and for runners outside the sanctioned field.
The upper is where the Y-3 version earns its place. Strung is an adidas process that lays individual threads according to movement data rather than weaving a conventional textile, producing a semi-open structure with an integrated tongue.
This off-white and black pair came in July 2024. The colouring is the whole Y-3 argument in miniature: take a machine that exists purely to be too much, then finish it in two neutrals so the only thing that registers as excessive is the height.
