The Ultraboost has been in production since 2015, and by its fifth numbered generation adidas had rebuilt most of it while keeping the two parts people buy it for: a Primeknit upper and a full-length Boost midsole sitting on a Continental rubber outsole.
Y-3 took that platform for a pack that went on sale in February 2025, and its edits are narrow. A TPU heel counter carries an embossed Yohji Yamamoto signature, the lacing is restructured for a firmer hold, and the palette is reduced to two or three tones. There is no reshaping of the sole and no added hardware, which separates it from the label's ground-up silhouettes such as the Orisan or the Kaiwa.
This black pair with a pale grey trim came in July 2025, later in the same cycle. It is the most straightforward kind of Y-3 shoe: an adidas running model most people already recognise, moved into a different palette and priced accordingly.
