Two tongues and a toe overlay that does not sit where it should: the Puerto Rican artist's version of the Gazelle Indoor is built around deliberate misplacement, which is the running theme of his adidas work. The upper is a muted Unity Orange suede, the layered tongue is his recurring signature, and pastel peach lands on the serrated leather three stripes, the back tab and the moulded tongue, giving a second, lighter orange rather than a contrasting colour. A semi-translucent rubber sole finishes it.
Santurce is the largest barrio of San Juan and the island's main cultural district, home to its major art museums, a historic market square and the biggest mural festival in the Caribbean. Naming an orange-on-orange shoe after it is a reasonable fit. Benito Martínez Ocasio has worked with adidas on its heritage models since March 2021, and this pair carried a $140 retail price.
