Powder blue, canary yellow and crimson do not belong on the same shoe by any conventional rule, which is why this one works. The upper is velvet in a pale blue, with a suede forefoot overlay in the same tone so the change reads as texture rather than colour. Serrated leather three stripes in a sharp yellow cut across it, and a stitched leather heel tab in deep red carries Gucci branding, a single hot note at the back of an otherwise cool shoe.
Alessandro Michele designed the collection around the colour sense of the 1980s and 1990s, and this is the pair where that intention is least disguised. Velvet in a pastel shade, primary-bright trim and a semi-translucent gum cupsole add up to something closer to a period piece than a luxury staple. It went out on July 28, 2022 at $850. Velvet is also the most fragile material in the whole set, since the pile crushes permanently at the flex line, so this is a shoe whose condition is visible from across a room.
