Jacques Chassaing began work on the Forum in 1983 by asking professional players what they actually wanted underfoot. The answer turned into the criss-cross ankle system, a strap arrangement meant to hold the foot steady inside the shoe, and into a basketball model that adidas also offered as a low-top for the first time in the company's history. It launched in 1984, and Michael Jordan wore Forums at that year's Olympics, before his Nike contract.
The shoe faded and then returned hard: adidas relaunched the Forum through its Originals line in 2020, and it has been in continuous production since, with the Forum 84 designations pointing back to the original year.
This pair is a regional edition built around Singapore, in white leather with Crew Navy and Ambient Sky on the trim. Being a low, it drops the tall strap the high-top is known for, leaving the wraparound midsole and the wide, flat toe box as the model's tells.
