ASICS introduced Guidesole on the MetaRide, a rockered sole with a stiff forefoot designed to cut down how much the ankle has to flex through each stride, on the argument that less ankle movement means less energy spent late in a long run. The idea then worked its way down a family. The GlideRide sat in the middle, and the EvoRide, launched for 2020, was the lightest and quickest of the three.
The EvoRide 2 followed at the end of that year. It kept the rocker geometry and the low weight and adjusted the upper and fit rather than rethinking the platform, which is the usual shape of a second version in a running line.
This black pair with high-visibility yellow came in January 2022 at $120, well under what the MetaRide asked. The Ride family was pitched as an argument about running economy rather than about cushioning, and the EvoRide is that argument at an everyday price.
