ASICS put the GEL-Kayano 28 on sale in June 2021, and the change that year was foam. FF Blast (a lighter, springier compound than the FlyteFoam the line had been using) was worked into the midsole to give the shoe a more responsive toe-off, which addressed the long-standing complaint about stability trainers: that everything keeping the foot in line also makes them feel dead.
The support hardware stayed conventional. DYNAMIC DUOMAX, a firmer wedge on the inside of the midsole, resisted inward roll, and a redesigned external heel counter sat lower on the shoe than before, holding the rear of the foot without the collar pressure taller counters cause. ASICS paired both with its gender-specific 3D Space Construction and a full-ground-contact outsole.
It was the last Kayano built this way. The following version replaced the medial post with LITETRUSS, and two years later the line moved again to the 4D Guidance System, which adjusts to pronation through the run rather than bracing against it. The 28 is where the older approach was at its most refined. This pair is a wide-fit grey.
