ASICS runs its stability shoes as a ladder, and the numbers on them are the rungs. The GT-1000 is the entry: a mild-support daily trainer at the lowest price in the group. The GT-2000, which the brand has been developing since 1993, sits above it with more cushioning and a more refined support structure. The GT-4000 sits above that with the most aggressive medial support in the range.
The tenth GT-1000 belongs to the older school of that lineage. Support came from DUOMAX, a firmer wedge of foam built into the medial side of the midsole, backed by a rubber wall and a plastic shank. It works (the arch is physically stopped from rolling in), but it is heavy and unsubtle, and runners feel it under the inside of the foot.
That approach ended with the next version. This pair is one of the last GT-1000s built the old way, in a mid-blue mesh with aqua accents through the midsole and branding.
