The Jolt is where ASICS puts the money last. There is no GEL unit, no FlyteFoam, no FF Blast; the midsole is basic EVA, firm at around 29.8 on the durometer, returning under half the energy put into it. That sounds like a criticism and mostly is not, because the shoe is built to an entry-level price and the compromises are the honest ones.
What it does well it does properly. The mesh upper ventilates unusually well for the money, the outsole uses segmented rubber pods at the high-wear zones rather than a thin full-coverage sheet, and the wide, firm platform feels stable underfoot. Weight lands around 9.1 ounces with a measured 9.4mm drop over a 31.6mm heel and 22.2mm forefoot.
It is a first running shoe, a gym shoe and a walking shoe rather than a training tool, and it is not built for speed work.
This version is black throughout.
