The shoe is named after a race. The Noosa Triathlon has been held on the Queensland coast since 1983 and grew into a multi-day festival, and ASICS attached the name to a running shoe built specifically for the third leg of that kind of event. Triathlon changes what a shoe has to do. It is pulled on wet, usually without socks, in a transition area where seconds are lost fumbling with laces, so the line has always emphasised easy entry, a smooth interior and drainage over the details that matter in a standard trainer. The colour follows from the same logic: bright is useful when a competitor is finding their own pair among hundreds racked in a transition zone, and the line has treated loud finishes as part of the specification rather than as decoration. Hazard green is among the sharpest it has used.
