If the twenty-fifth Cumulus rebuilt the shoe from the midsole up, the twenty-sixth worked at ground level. ASICS changed the outsole approach (a FluidRide construction in place of the rubber compound used before) and came out lighter again, around 8.9 ounces, despite adding stack height rather than removing it.
PureGEL stays under the heel and FF Blast+ stays in the midsole, so the underfoot character carries over from the previous version, with the ride reading a little softer. That made two consecutive years of losing weight while gaining cushioning, an unusual run for a model that had spent most of its history making small, conservative changes.
It also put real distance between this shoe and the twenty-fourth version from two years earlier, which weighed 10.1 ounces and used a firmer foam with exposed Gel. A runner moving up two generations would find a noticeably different shoe under the same name, which is not something the Cumulus line had often asked of its buyers.
Black with Watershed Rose is the late-summer women's colour, dated 9 August 2024: the darker of the two options that season, alongside a far brighter magenta and cyan pairing that followed in September.
