For nearly three decades the GEL-Kayano did stability the same way: put a firmer block of foam on the inside edge of the midsole and let it resist the foot rolling inward. ASICS called it DuoMax, and the twenty-eighth version sits squarely in that tradition: dual-density medial support, GEL units front and back, an engineered mesh upper, and a price anchoring the top of the brand's non-racing range.
The line dates to 1993, when ASICS designer Toshikazu Kayano built the first GEL-Kayano Trainer and the series took his name. It ran long enough to outlast its own method: at version 30 the medial post disappeared entirely, replaced by a wider platform, raised sidewalls and what ASICS branded the 4D Guidance System, with the GEL moved inside as PureGEL.
