The GEL-Kayano line runs back to 1993, when ASICS released the first GEL-Kayano Trainer, a shoe named for the company designer who drew it, Toshikazu Kayano. For most of the three decades that followed, the series managed overpronation the way its rivals did: with a wedge of firmer foam built into the arch side of the midsole.
The thirtieth edition broke that habit. ASICS replaced the medial post with what it calls the 4D Guidance System, a structure meant to adapt as a runner’s gait shifts over the course of a run rather than pushing back at one fixed point. Underfoot the shoe moved to FF Blast Plus Eco, a foam carrying bio-based content, and gained four millimetres of stack height. The GEL insert changed too: PureGEL, softer and lighter than the compound ASICS had used since the 1980s, had appeared on the neutral GEL-Nimbus 25 earlier the same year and carried straight over.
This is the women’s build, cut in engineered knit. Where the line usually reaches for muted tones, the colourway commits to a saturated sunrise red across the upper, with black on the logo, laces and heel counter.
