Generation thirty had done the heavy lifting. ASICS had already pulled the medial post out of its stability flagship and put the 4D Guidance System in its place, a support structure built to work with a runner’s gait as fatigue changes it rather than bracing against one point, and it had already moved the midsole to FF Blast Plus Eco foam with bio-based content.
The thirty-first edition therefore reads as a tuning pass. The changes sit in the upper and the outsole: engineered mesh redrawn thinner and more open, an ankle collar reworked with a knitted band that stands away from the foot, softer heel padding, and grippier rubber underneath. PureGEL stays in the heel, softer and lighter than the GEL compound ASICS first put into running shoes in the 1980s.
This women’s pair runs in birch, a pale oat tone, against black. It is a quieter finish than the series normally takes at launch, and it belongs to the run of race-season colourways ASICS ties to the Tokyo Marathon.
