ASICS timed this one to April 2021, and the point of it is material rather than performance. The mesh upper is built with recycled content across roughly forty per cent of its surface, and the palette follows: undyed-looking cream and putty instead of the saturated tones the tennis line usually ships, with the sponsor-facing branding kept small.
Underneath, nothing was softened. It is a GEL-Resolution 8: the generation that brought FlyteFoam into the series and introduced DYNAWALL, a sidewall structure built to stop the foot rolling over the midsole edge when a player changes direction at speed. The Flexion Fit upper, the GEL units at heel and midfoot, and the abrasion-resistant outsole rubber carry over from the standard model, because a court shoe that gives up traction or drag resistance for a lighter material stops being usable.
That is the interesting tension in the shoe: hard-court tennis is brutally destructive to footwear, so a sustainability-led build has to make its savings in the upper, where the wear is least.
