Hyper Speed exists to make a point about price. ASICS built it as a racing flat for runners who want to be competitive over 5K and 10K without paying for a carbon plate, and it deliberately omits the features that define the brand's elite racers: no plate, no premium foam, no specialist wet-grip rubber.
What it keeps is the part that matters most: weight. Reviewers put it at 7.4 ounces for men and 6.1 for women, light enough to disappear underfoot, on a Guidesole rocker geometry meant to encourage quick rollover and faster turnover. The drop is listed somewhere around 5 to 7mm depending on the source.
At roughly seventy-nine to ninety dollars it undercuts almost everything else sold as a race shoe, and reviewers treated it as genuine value rather than a compromise, usable over a half marathon, though happiest at shorter distances where its lack of cushioning is not tested.
