Carbon-plated racing shoes reset the price of going fast, and Magic Speed is ASICS' answer for runners unwilling to pay it. The line borrows the geometry of the brand's elite Metaspeed models without the foam or the cost, and the second version is where it became genuinely competitive.
The first Magic Speed used a three-quarter-length plate and drew criticism for feeling firm and under-cushioned. The second answered both: a stiff full-length carbon-TPU plate for faster transitions, sitting in a thicker dual-density midsole with FF Blast+ on top. Stack measures roughly 34mm at the heel and 27mm at the forefoot, the drop rose to 7mm, and the upper moved to materials closer to what the Metaspeed shoes use.
Weight lands near 8.1 ounces. Reviewers were clear that it does not return energy the way the flagship racers do (the ride reads less lively), but for tempo work, and for runners racing on a budget, that gap is the trade being made on purpose.
Orchid over white belongs to the model's first months in June 2022, when it carried a hundred and sixty dollars. Later colours settled at a hundred and fifty.
