CARNIVAL used its fifteenth-anniversary ASICS collaboration to explore Phra Nakhon, the historic Bangkok district that gives this GEL-Kayano 12.1 its name. The upper uses crochet knitting with small areas of color visible beneath it, bringing the idea of hidden layers into the construction. Thai Kanok patterns provide another local reference. These details give the Cream/Green Basil edition a specific connection to Bangkok beyond the collaborators’ names and the colors listed on the box.
The references extend beneath the upper. A textured spray finish on the midsole recalls the city’s concrete streets, while a diamond motif on the insoles draws from a traditional Chula kite. The release also had separate local and wider launch dates: CARNIVAL’s Thailand launch came on April 4, 2026, followed by broader distribution on April 17. That sequence explains why two dates appear in records of the same collaboration.
