Strip a Chuck 70 down and the differences from a standard All Star are measurable rather than cosmetic. A lab teardown of the high-top put the removable OrthoLite insole at roughly 13.9mm thick and the outsole rubber at about 7.4mm, a couple of millimetres more than most casual sneakers carry, with the whole shoe weighing around 17 ounces in a men's US 9. The canvas is heavier, the foxing tape climbs higher up the sidewall, and the bottom unit is moulded in one piece instead of the three the regular All Star uses.
This high-top puts all of that under burgundy. The deep red covers the quarter, tongue and collar, black handles the trim, and there is none of the cream-against-colour contrast the line usually trades on. It released on 7 May 2018 at 90 dollars, a plain seasonal make-up whose appeal is the depth of the dye rather than a graphic.
