Grey on grey is a familiar arrangement on this model, and this is a clean example of it. Nimbus Cloud is the lighter of the two tones, a pale, slightly warm grey New Balance uses across its retro runners, and a deeper grey sits behind it on the overlays. With no third colour anywhere on the shoe, the only things separating one panel from another are that half step between shades and the shadow the seams throw.
Core Plus is the label New Balance attached to this version, and it sold at $80. Grey has a long association with the brand's running models, and on the 574 it works as the default: the shade a buyer picks when the shoe is meant to sit inside an outfit rather than anchor it. That logic goes further here than it would on most silhouettes, because the model was never a statement shoe to begin with. It was the cheap option in New Balance's off-road 500 series, drawn up from an existing 576 upper and a 577 sole, and a two-tone grey version is that brief carried to its conclusion.
