Mallard green is dark and slightly blued, closer to the bottle greens of outdoor clothing than to anything on a football pitch. On this 574 it covers the suede overlays, with shadow grey filling the panels behind them and white on the midsole and the sidewall N. The grey is what makes the combination work, because a green this dark against white alone would look stark, and a mid tone between the two softens the jump.
New Balance released the pair on June 30, 2024 at $90 under the Marsh Green name. The ENCAP heel is in place, foam cushioning inside a rigid polyurethane surround, as it has been on every version of the model going back to the first. Green suits this silhouette for a reason beyond fashion: the shoe descends from the 500 series, which the brand built for running on trails, so a muted outdoor green puts it back in the landscape it was drawn for, even though almost nobody runs in it now.
