The Zoom Vomero+ 5 launched in 2010 as a cushioned Nike road trainer, part of the Bowerman series and built around Zoom Air units in the forefoot and heel over a Cushlon foam midsole. Its mesh-and-synthetic-leather upper, moulded heel cage and midsole sensor port for Nike's fitness tracking placed it squarely in the running aisle rather than the fashion one.
That changed in 2018, when Nike handed the mould to Samuel Ross, whose A-Cold-Wall* label builds clothing around industrial materials and British class imagery. Rather than restyle the shoe, the capsule altered how it ages: the polyurethane coating that normally keeps a white upper white was removed, so the sail mesh and leather discolour as they are worn. The same collection paired the shoe with garments cut from a Japanese technical nylon that softens with body heat. A large TPU heel counter and exposed foam edges push the construction forward, while brown mesh lining reads through the pale panels. It ran at 200 dollars and preceded the general-release Vomero 5 colourways that returned the model to shelves the following year.
