CLOT, the Hong Kong label founded by Edison Chen and Kevin Poon, turned the Air Max 1 into 'Kiss of Death' in May 2006, one of the collaboration's earliest and most detailed takes on the shoe. Beige suede panels sit alongside deep red snakeskin-embossed leather and ostrich texture, with an orange blaze heel counter and matching midsole breaking up the muted upper. A see-through toe box lets the layered materials show through rather than closing them off behind a solid panel.
The detail that set the pair apart sat underfoot: a reflexology-style map of pressure points printed on the insole, referencing the theory behind traditional Chinese medicine, paired with a clear outsole so the graphic stayed visible while worn. At $100, it was priced like a standard release despite the amount of material work on the upper, and Nike and CLOT returned to the design in 2021 to mark fifteen years of the partnership.
