Cutting the Air Jordan 1 down to a low is normally a way of making it cheaper and more wearable. Here it produced a $2,000 shoe rather than a $2,200 one, which tells you most of what you need to know about the exercise.
The collaboration came out of Dior's menswear under Kim Jones, who held that role from 2018, and it extended well past footwear into a full collection. The low takes the same materials as its high-top counterpart (Italian leather, assembled in Italy) but simplifies the colour split to a white base under soft grey overlays, with none of the contrast the high uses at the collar.
Branding is handled in three places, all of them borrowed from the house rather than the shoe. A woven tag sits on the tongue, the swoosh is cut from Dior's Oblique monogram jacquard instead of leather, and a Wings logo reworked with Dior lettering appears at the heel. The outsole is clear, so the marks moulded underneath stay visible.
