The Air Jordan 5 is the most decorated shoe Tinker Hatfield made for the line, and the decoration all comes from one place. He worked from a P-51 Mustang: the jagged shapes moulded into the midsole are the shark-mouth nose art those fighters carried, the tongue is finished in a reflective material that flares under light, and the sole is translucent rather than solid rubber. Lace locks hold the eyelets. It released in February 1990 and turned up constantly on television through that decade.
DJ Khaled has been building the We the Best name across categories for years (a record label since 2008, headphones in 2014, a furniture line in 2018), and the phrase functions as branding rather than a title.
This pair belongs to a capsule under that name and was not sold. Blue leather covers the upper over a teal quilted lining, the tongue is silver and reflective with a matching Jumpman, and pink embroidery spells the phrase across the left heel with a Nike Air logo on the right. Turquoise speckling runs the off-white midsole. It is dated November 2022.
