Two different reflective treatments are working here, not one. The toe box and eyestay are an iridescent silver-based leather, bright but stable. The side panels and heel use a holographic material that changes color as the angle changes, so the back half of the shoe never looks the same twice and the front half stays put.
The Swoosh is the counterweight: black velour, a napped fabric that absorbs light rather than bouncing it, which is about as far from holographic film as a material can get. Black continues through the midsole, the lining and the heel tab. This is the Comfort build, Nike's cushioned reworking of the model, and the Premium designation covers the specialty materials, which together account for the $135 price against a standard leather low-top. It went on sale the day after Christmas in 2013.
