Gold on black is a harder pairing than it looks. University Gold is a deep, warm yellow rather than a metallic, and on a black leather upper it has to carry the Swoosh on its own without any help from a second accent. The white midsole underneath stops the shoe from disappearing into a single dark mass in profile.
The upper is the standard low-top build, panels of smooth leather over a leather mudguard, with the toe box perforated for airflow and a padded collar around the ankle. The metal medallion stamped with the model's name hangs at the throat of the lacing, as it has since the shoe was a basketball design in 1982. Underfoot there is an Air unit encapsulated in the heel and a rubber outsole with the circular pivot pattern drawn for turning on a court. The $90 price marks it as a general release rather than a premium make-up.
