Nike marked the model's 25th year in 2015 with a series that swapped materials rather than shapes, running patent, croc and snake textures across the upper while keeping the original red accent in play. This pair takes the reptile route: black snake-embossed panels, Infrared 23 on the trim and branding, and turquoise as the third tone. Infrared matters here. The 1990 original used a bright red on the heel and sole to exaggerate how thick the Air unit was, turning an engineering feature into a visual one, and every anniversary release that wants to signal its lineage puts that colour back.
Nike released the pair in March 2015 at $135. The embossing changes how the shoe reads at close range without altering its outline. Panel edges catch light differently, and the texture gives the mid-panels weight that plain leather does not. It is a treatment Nike uses sparingly on the 90, which is part of why the anniversary series still stands apart from the general-release colourways that surrounded it.
