The Air Max 90 was called the Air Max III when it launched in 1990, and kept that name until a 2000 reissue renamed it after its release year. Its first colorway was white, black and cool grey with infrared, and the infrared was not decorative; it was picked to exaggerate how thick the air cushion under the heel looked. Every treatment since has been working with or against a shoe designed to pull attention downward.
The Country Camo series took the opposite approach and put the interest on the overlays. Each entry was assigned a nation and given that country's camouflage pattern; this one is Japan, so the mudguard, eyestay and heel panels carry a Japanese print instead of solid leather. Army green runs through the branding and the mesh sections to keep the palette closed.
Because the pattern occupies the panels that usually frame the Air window, the sole reads as quieter here than it does on most Air Max 90s.
