Homegrown is one of the few Air Max 90s where the pun is the design. The upper is finished in a deep grass green nap, the panels carry a leaf texture, and Orange Blaze appears only as trim, on the lace locks and small branding. A cork insole sits inside, which was an unusual material choice for a Nike running retro at the time.
Patta, working out of Amsterdam, put the pair together in 2006 and Nike released it in December of that year at $290. That price was extraordinary for the period, when general-release 90s were selling for around $100, and it marked the shoe as a small-run project rather than a seasonal colourway. Underneath, the silhouette is untouched: layered side panels, a visible Air unit at the heel, waffle-pattern rubber below. The pair has held its standing for two decades, partly on rarity and partly because the concept is unusually committed. Most collaborations on this model change the colours; this one changed the surface.
