The Infrared name is a reference to lineage. When the Air Max 90 launched in 1990 as the Air Max III, Nike used a bright red at the heel and along the sole to exaggerate how thick the visible Air unit was, and that accent has been the shoe's signature ever since. Colourways built on the original arrangement carry the name.
This toddler pair runs white leather over Neutral Grey and Cool Grey panels with black on the outlines and branding, the same grey-on-white foundation the 1990 shoe used. The toggle closure replaces laces with a drawcord and lock, which is what makes the shoe workable at this age, and the opening is cut wide for easy entry. Nike released it in January 2021 at $75. Everything else scales down without being simplified: stacked side panels, the moulded window over the heel Air unit, and the waffle-pattern rubber outsole.
