Ultra 2.0 is the slimmed version of the Air Max 90. Nike rebuilt the sole in lighter foam with a reduced rubber footprint, keeping the visible heel Air window but cutting a noticeable amount of weight. This pair takes that base and dresses it in leather rather than the mesh the Ultra line often uses. Black covers the upper almost completely. Light Bone appears on the midsole and small trim, and gum-coloured rubber runs across the outsole, which is the detail that makes the shoe. Gum against black leather is a combination that reads warmer than a standard white or black sole and hides wear well.
Nike released it in September 2018 at $130. The Ultra family was Nike's answer to buyers who liked the 90's outline but not its mass, and it ran alongside the standard build for several seasons. Leather versions like this one sit at the sturdier end of that range, closer in feel to the original than the mesh-based Ultras.
