Sergio Lozano designed the Air Max 95 for Nike in 1995, building the shoe around two ideas: eroded soil layers and human anatomy, from the rib-like eyelets to the spine-like shank running down the midfoot. This History of Air pair, released November 9, 2005, brings that original grey gradient upper back in neutral grey with neon yellow trim and a dark charcoal base, the same recipe Nike used at launch a decade earlier.
The grey fade was never just a look; Nike leaned on it partly because darker tones toward the sole hid dirt and wear better than a lighter shoe could. A black midsole ran beneath it, a new choice for the Air Max line that met resistance inside Nike before it shipped. The small swoosh sits low on the heel rather than across the side panel, a detail carried over from the original 1995 design, and the neon accent remains the detail most associated with the whole Air Max 95 story.
