Bo Jackson played professional baseball and professional football in the same calendar year, and Nike's response was a shoe advertised as workable for weights, basketball and running alike. The Air Trainer SC arrived at the end of the 1980s with a composite leather upper, a padded ankle collar, a polyurethane sole and a visible Air unit.
What sealed it was timing. The Bo Knows campaign ran for the first time during the 1989 Major League All-Star Game, in the commercial break directly after Jackson led off the game with a home run measured past four hundred feet.
Later releases have used the silhouette as a canvas rather than as a performance shoe. This one belongs to the awareness series Nike runs each October, applied to a design whose bulk gives any treatment plenty of surface to work with.
