Nike SB's answer to the plain black high-top, the 'Black Base Grey' Dunk High Pro SB pairs a black upper and black overlays with base grey as the single secondary tone in the official colour name. Nothing about it shouts, which is the point. Skaters reached for the Dunk in the first place because of its cushioning, its support and its flat, grippy sole, and a colourway like this one strips the shoe back to those reasons. Grey against black keeps just enough contrast to read the panel lines of a Dunk High without a bright colour pulling the eye.
Retail was $95, the going price for a general-release Pro SB High, which places it at the opposite end of the line from the premium-materials makeups and named collaborations. As a skate shoe it carries the SB spec: fat tongue on elastic straps, padded collar, Zoom Air under the heel. A black high with grey accents also hides the wear that comes from flicking a board, so a pair that has actually been skated looks presentable for longer than a white or pastel colourway would. In a rotation of SB Dunks, this is the workhorse slot.
