Two colours, no print, no special material. Team Red covers the overlays and the Swoosh, white fills the base and the midsole, and the shoe is left to work on its panel shapes.
That restraint is not a modern minimalist choice, it is the original brief. Peter Moore drew the Dunk in 1985 as a college basketball shoe, and Nike sold it on team colours, which meant every makeup had to be legible as two blocks of colour from a distance. The panelling was cut to serve that, borrowing from the Legend, the Terminator and the Air Force 1. This grade school version came out on 17 March 2017 at 100 dollars, a couple of years before the revival that pushed the Dunk back to the front of Nike's range.
