When Stefan Janoski signed to Nike SB in 2006 the line was dominated by bulky, heavily cushioned skate shoes. His own preferences ran the other way, toward the slimmest things on the shelf, and when he became the second rider given a signature model the result was a low, unpadded shoe with a vulcanised sole, the first time that construction had appeared on one of his shoes.

It was an unusual bet and it paid off completely. The Janoski became the best-selling skate shoe ever made and has stayed in the range without interruption, appearing in well over a thousand versions since 2009.
