Supreme and Nike SB put out three Blazers on April 21, 2006, in varsity red, black and sail. All three used the same recipe: a quilted leather upper, a faux snakeskin Swoosh and gold hardware, a level of finish nobody was applying to skate shoes at the time.
On the red pair the snakeskin runs in graphite against the quilting, and gold shows up at the lace tips, the ankle ring and the stripe wrapping the heel, a detail lifted from Italian luxury house styling. The $180 MSRP was high for 2006 and the release drew campouts. The Blazer was an odd choice for luxury treatment. It began in 1973 as Nike's first basketball shoe, plain leather and nylon, before skateboarders adopted it and Nike SB reinforced it for the job in 2005.
