A tonal Air Force 1 is a test of the pattern. Strip out the Swoosh contrast, the white midsole and the colored heel tab, and what is left has to carry the shoe on shape alone. Particle Beige does that here, a warm neutral applied to the leather upper, the midsole and the outsole without variation.
What surfaces once the color stops competing is the construction Bruce Kilgore drew in 1982: the row of perforations across the toe box, the seam where the mudguard meets the quarter panel, the padded collar and the way the Swoosh is stitched rather than printed. The lace medallion is still there at the throat, and the Air unit is still encapsulated under the heel. LX marks Nike's upgraded material grade on women's makeups, which is where the $110 price came from rather than any change to the silhouette. The shoe arrived in spring 2018, when soft neutrals were running through most of Nike's women's range.
