Calling it a high-top undersells what has happened. The Sage High extends the collar far past where an Air Force 1 High stops, up the leg toward the calf, so the shoe reads as a boot with a sneaker sole attached. A zip runs down the side to get in and out of it, and a buckled strap fastens across the ankle at roughly the height the original shoe's velcro strap would sit.
The upper is synthetic and entirely black, which keeps a tall shaft from looking bulkier than it already is. The midsole does the opposite: it is a white platform, thicker than standard Air Force 1 tooling, and the contrast draws a hard line between the sole and everything above it. Sage was one of five archetypes Nike's women designers worked to when they rebuilt the Air Force 1 in 2018, the calm and considered one. At $180 this was among the more expensive pieces in that range.
