The Shadow's trick is repetition. Nike took the Air Force 1's signature parts and built each one twice: two Swooshes stacked and offset on the panel, two eyestays flanking the laces, two mudguards and two heel tabs, with the second copy of each piece cut in a different color to the first. The midsole is exaggerated at the same time, thicker and taller than the standard tooling, so the whole shoe is a scaled-up version of itself.
On this pair the base is white leather and the doubled layers are picked out in black and Aurora, a pale green-blue. Because the second layer sits slightly behind the first rather than on top of it, the effect in profile is closer to a shadow falling across the shoe than to a color block. The Shadow launched in women's sizing and has stayed there. At $110 it was priced just above a standard leather low-top, which is a small premium for a great deal more material.
