The Air Huarache started with a material rather than a shape. Tinker Hatfield had noticed how closely the neoprene booties used in water skiing wrapped the foot and ankle, and built a running shoe around that idea: a stretch inner sleeve held in place by synthetic overlays and an exposed heel cage, over a Phylon midsole with encapsulated Air.
It looked like nothing else on a 1991 shelf, and Nike leaned on that with an advertising line asking whether you had hugged your foot today. The shoe sold through quickly enough that the campaign became the thing people remembered, and the Huarache moved from a running model into a permanent part of the lifestyle range.
The Run Print series takes the women's Huarache Run and applies all-over graphics to the upper panels while leaving the bootie and cage structure intact. This black version was priced at $115, in the middle of where the model has sat for most of its retro life.
