Ultra versions of the Air Max 90 strip weight out of the bottom half. The layered foam and rubber stack of the original is thinned down and simplified, leaving a lighter, more flexible sole that still carries a visible Air window at the heel. The upper keeps the panel arrangement that makes the silhouette readable. This women's Premium pair runs Midnight Navy as the base with Blue Grey filling the mid-panels and white on the midsole and trim. Nothing in the palette shouts; the contrast between the two blues is gentle enough that the panel lines read as texture rather than blocks.
Nike released it in September 2016 at $135. The Premium label covers the upgraded materials on the upper compared to the standard Ultra. By 2016 Nike was running several parallel constructions of the 90 at once, and the Ultra family was the everyday-wear answer: same outline, far less mass, aimed at buyers who wanted the look without the original's weight.
