About the RTFKT x Nike Dunk Genesis "OG"
RTFKT started in 2020 as a virtual sneaker studio, designing shoes that existed only as digital objects. Nike bought the company in late 2021. The Dunk Genesis came out of that arrangement backwards: it was released as a virtual item with changeable digital skins first, and then built for real.
The physical version keeps the Dunk outline and almost nothing of its materials. The upper is light grey synthetic with laser etched detailing and moulded bio based polyurethane trim. A gradient blue finish runs across the Swoosh on the outer side and the RTFKT blade logo on the inner. The tongue clip and heel shield detach, so the shoe can be reconfigured the way a digital skin would be. Underneath sits a grey foam midsole with debossed branding and Zoom Air cushioning, which no standard Dunk carries. It released on 21 June 2024 at 222 dollars.
