Following the all-white version by under a month, this Re:Style pair turns the upper black and leaves the sole pale, restoring the contrast the first one deliberately removed. Puma dated it June 7, 2022 and priced it at 75 dollars, the same as its twin. The result is the more conventional of the two and by some distance the easier to live with.
A dark upper over a white sole is the default sneaker arrangement for good reason. It gives the shoe a clear outline, flatters almost any trouser length and hides wear on the part that takes the most abuse. On this shape it also brings the Formstrip back into view, since a black sweep on black loses its definition while a black upper above a pale sole keeps the profile sharp. The sole is the only part that will show its age, and white rubber yellows regardless of what is done to it. That is a fair trade for an upper asking almost nothing of its owner.
